WHAT YOU’LL DO:

We are seeking an experienced Packaging Development Manager to build and lead key sourcing initiatives for new and existing products across packaging, finished goods, and formula/fragrance to account for cost, capacity, and due diligence. The role will focus on supporting core product renovation and new product launches.

This role reports into the Director of Commercialization within the Operations department and presents an opportunity to optimize sourcing across our product portfolio to maximize cost savings, achieve margin targets, and strategically implement new initiatives. This is a full-time position based in Los Angeles (hybrid, 2-3 days per week in-office).

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Negotiate and implement cost-saving programs with suppliers, such as volume-based discounts, operational efficiencies, better payment terms, lead time improvements, etc. and evaluate continuous improvements
  • Assess potential new suppliers based on strategic direction, financial health/risk, due diligence, market and industry position, capabilities, capacity, and risks
  • Manage RFI, RFQ records to conduct cost modeling exercises and analysis towards margin optimization for new product launches and renovations
  • Engage with Marketing, Product Development and Creative teams to support new development to understand sourcing deliverables and objectives
  • Seek out new suppliers and source new material with a focus on speed to market, quality, cost/margin, and supply stability
  • Recommend sourcing strategies that improve the agility, responsiveness, and reliability of the supply chain
  • Responsible for driving cost savings by optimizing pricing tiers, collaborating with Product Development on achieving product features at the optimal cost, and understanding cost drivers, raw materials pricing, and market factors
  • Drive and track formula technology transfers in collaboration with Product Development via pilots/scale ups via designated third-party manufacturing partners
  • Implement secondary sources for components to mitigate risks on production and timing of critical finished goods
  • Manage updates to supplier agreements to include stronger terms and conditions, and upholding supplier quality and product development requirements
  • Partner with Quality Assurance in qualifying and auditing new and existing suppliers
  • Collaborate on the review and approval of Finished Goods specifications and BOMs
  • Recommending execution path for company-led sustainability and fair trade initiatives to meet required deliverables
  • Conduct long-term planning with suppliers to ensure that supplier capacity supports planned company growth
  • Compile regulatory documentation ensuring packaging compliance for domestic and international retail partners

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 3+ years in hair, beauty, wellness consumer packaged goods with a track record of results managing sourcing strategies
  • Self-starter with strong project management and time management skills to drive results within a project’s timeline
  • Experience in packaging development and commercialization timelines and communicating to vendors and third-party manufacturing partners
  • Packaging engineering background preferred
  • Excellent communication skills, including written, verbal and presentation skills; comfortable and credible with both internal stakeholders and external audiences
  • Flexible and adaptable to change, proactive and able to motivate oneself and others
  • MS Office software (Outlook, Word, Excel & PowerPoint) and bonus for Google Suite (Sheets, Docs, Gmail)
  • Role may involve up to 25% travel within the U.S. to visit suppliers and attend trade shows

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

Base Salary Range: $100K - $120K. Individual pay decisions are based on a number of factors including qualifications for the role and experience.
